My 2-Week Challenge to Achieve a 79+ Score in the PTE Academic Exam

My 2-Week Challenge to Achieve a 79+ Score in the PTE Academic Exam

Jul 23, 2024

For me, getting ready for the PTE Academic test has been a challenging journey. Though my daily professional contacts in English, I came to see that passing this test with a good score calls for strategic preparation and knowledge of the test structure rather than just practical use. Here I discuss my PTE Academic exam experience and my strategy to get a third attempt's score of 79+.

My Past Attempts for PTE Exam

First try: April 2022.

I sat my first PTE Academic exam in April 2022. I hardly prepared, mostly depending on YouTube videos. I thought that my regular English conversations at work would be enough to shine on the test. I misjudged. The outcome score was a 66, much below the objective of 79+. It was a humble encounter that let me realize the need of careful planning. As my personal plans changed so I postponed PTE for 2 years.

Second try: May 2024. After preparing with Scored AI Mock Tests.

I choose to approach my second try more methodically. I bought a mock test package with artificial intelligence scores and worked constantly for ten days. From 60 to 70, my scores progressively raised in AI scored mock tests. But believing I would do better on the real test, I undervalued the accuracy of the AI based tests. Sadly, my score—which matched the AI mock test findings—exactly 71. This was very evident that my preparation enhanced my scores, but I should not have ignored AI scoring comments.

The Strategy for My Third PTE Exam Attempt

Driven to get a 79+ score, I am now getting ready for my third try with a changed plan. To get various ideas and comments, I have bought another AI scored mock test package from another provider. I have two weeks to get ready, juggling daily professional and personal responsibilities with PTE preparation.

Detailed Plan I will share on day-to-day basis but here is the overview.

  1. Day 1 to Day 14 - Daily AI Scored Mock Test
  2. Drafting my own templates for speaking questions
  3. Drafting my own templates for writing essay
  4. As I am lacking in listening section - I will practice listening modules from YouTube PTE video and form my strategy around that
  5. Find out exam predictions
  6. Analyzing daily score in detail and improve with every test.
